Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 9700 Mesa about 3:40 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 22).

The suspect, Astroroid Dewayne Benton (b/m, DOB: 2-21-81), is charged with murder in the 248th State District Court for his role in the killing of Donnell Lavar Williams, 36, of Houston.

A photo of suspect Benton is not available at this time, pending further investigation.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Elliott, Senior Police Officer C. Scales and Officers I. Duplechain and T. Ferguson reported:

Mr. Williams was found in the laundry area of the apartment complex at the above address. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigation identified Benton, who lives at the apartment complex, as the suspect in this case. On Thursday (Dec. 26), he was arrested at the complex without incident.
