Commenting on a recently released video that exposes a police officer threatening to tie a street beggar to a pole for an hour in the freezing cold on Thursday, Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre mentioned that it is not acceptable. The video shows an unidentified police officer warning a seemingly homeless man, as he says “I’ve told you, that if I receive another 911 call about you, I will tie you to a pole for an hour.”

The video captured by a bystander shows the officer saying that “I swear — look into my eyes — I swear,” after which he reiterates in a serious tone that “I’ll tie you to a pole for an hour.” The man could be seen holding a Styrofoam cup filled with loose change in his right hand. Apart from that, the video also showed another police officer watching from inside a police cruiser parked next to them, who seemed to be closely observing his colleague but did not intervened or made any comments. The video was soon uploaded to YouTube by the bystander who recorded it on a smartphone, after which it quickly went viral and caught the attention of many.

Head of public affairs for the Montreal Police Department, Commander Ian Lafrenière, assured that disciplinary action will be taken against the officer. He mentioned that “It could be a reprimand, it could be many things,” while adding that “what you heard on that video is unacceptable and unexplainable. The commanding officer will be meeting with him (Friday morning), and I can tell you he’s not happy at all.”

  1. The heartless jerk making the vcomment_IDeo dcomment_IDn’t offer to help the homeless man like inviting him home and feeding and dressing him. Nope, not a chance. Instead, the vcomment_IDeographer acted like a jerk politician or useless bureaucrat or other so-called bleeding heart liberal who complain bitterly when a homeless person confronts them and aggressively demands help — and calls the cops to deal with the matter, preferably roughly, even if the homeless person is obviously, let me be politically incorrect, crazy. The cop was just trying to help the guy in the only way a homeless person often understands.
