Nova Scotia is still under strong blizzard warning today, while weather conditions prompt serious warnings due to dangerous driving conditions and causing delays and cancellations across the province. Almost all of the universities, including Nova Scotia Community College campuses, are closed for the day, along with many daycare centers.
In addition to that, several organizations and companies have cancelled events planned for the day while Halifax Regional Municipality has also announced to postpone garbage pickups. Moreover, ferry services between Digby and Saint John are also suspended while many government offices delay their opening as well. Consequently, government officers are advised to call and confirm before leaving their home, if their office is open. According to Environment Canada, another 20 centimetres of snow is expected to fall in some regions today. Meanwhile, blowing snow has worsened the already hazardous road conditions, due to which drivers are asked to stay off roads and highways while plows and salt trucks deal with the accumulation.
The highest number of snowfall is anticipated to fall over Southwestern Nova Scotia, the Annapolis Valley and along most of the Atlantic Coast. And along with high northeastern winds, the weather has reduced visibility and white-out conditions. It has been forecasted that the southwest region, along with areas along the Atlantic coast, are most likely to be hit hardest as snow combines with the strong winds. Coastal areas of Yarmouth, Shelburne and Digby counties could see wind gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hour. Winter parking bans were in effect for Halifax and Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
