A 36-year-old male is in custody and facing sexual assault charges following a foot chase with police on the city’s south side last night, on the heels of two alleged incidents.

Southwest Division members responded to the area near 110 Street and 80 Avenue at approximately 7:40 p.m., Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, after receiving a report of a sexual assault.

A female complainant reported being pushed to the ground and groped in a sexual manner by a male suspect, who had then fled the scene on foot.

A plain clothes police officer spotted the suspect in the act of allegedly sexually assaulting a second female complainant near 112 Street and University Avenue.

The member identified himself as a police officer, and a foot pursuit with the suspect ensued. Multiple EPS units flooded the area, and the suspect was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

Daniel Leonard, 36, is charged with sexual assault (x2) and breach of probation (x2).
