Hamilton man Jason Stevens charged with attempted murder

On January 18th, 2014 at approximately 9:45 p.m., Hamilton Police responded to the area of Main Street West and Whitney Avenue to investigate a stabbing. A woman was seen speaking to a man just outside of a variety store in the area. The two were then seen walking together to the rear parking lot of the address. Shortly after, the woman returned to the front of the store bleeding and asked that a clerk call police. Police arrived on scene and the victim was taken to the hospital with multiple stab wounds.  The injuries are non-life threatening. From witnesses, the man was last seen walking from the area east along Whitney Avenue.  Both the TAC and K9 Unit responded to assist with a search of the man but he was not located.

The man last seen with the victim is considered a person of interest and is described as male, white, late 20’s, 5’10”, 170lbs, brown hair wearing a dark coat. The Hamilton Police Division One Detectives continues to investigate.

Update: The Hamilton Homicide Unit has taken over this investigation and with the assistance of the Division One Detectives has arrested a Hamilton man for Attempt Murder.

The victim and the accused were unknown to each other until a few hours before the incident occurred.

The victim sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Charges:          Attempt Murder  

The accused is in police custody and will be in court for a bail hearing later today.

Hamilton Police Homicide Unit and Divisional Detectives are continuing to investigate.
