Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 1200 Gulf Bank Road about 12:05 a.m. today (Jan. 29).
The identity of the deceased male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer R. Bymaster reported:
The victim was driving a blue Chrysler PT Cruiser eastbound on Gulf Bank when the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a light pole. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in serious condition.
Evidence at the scene indicated the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.
