Marge Karabelski’s son, Tommy Karabelski, was spending the night out with his friends when he got hit by a subway train at Islington station on Saturday evening. The 22-year-old went beyond the subway platform’s yellow do-not-pass line to urinate and was hit by an oncoming train.
Karabelski now rests in a coma at St. Michael’s Hospital while the doctors treat him for numerous serious and life-threating injuries including two brain bleeds, eye socket and facial damage, a thinning vein in his neck, blood in his lungs. While being with his son at the hospital on Thursday, Karabelski stated that “kids do stupid things and he isn’t out of the woods yet. We are hoping for a full recovery. If nothing else, hopefully this will stop someone else from doing the same thing.” A warehouse worker from Detroit, Karabelski, was in town visiting his Toronto girlfriend to celebrate her birthday. Karabelski’s mother revealed that although he had a few drinks, he was not intoxicated. She said that “my son had his car here, but he didn’t get in and drive. He wouldn’t do that.”
According to the medical staff at the hospital, it could take almost a month for the doctors to make a definitive prognosis. Karabelski’s three siblings are accompanying him at the hospital, as they make origami cranes for him to pass time because they are symbols of luck. Karabelski’s sister, Carol Swanson, alleged that “I just want my brother back; he is a good kid.”
a good kcomment_ID wouldn’t be ignorant enough to piss on the tracks in full view of other commuters. What an asshole. Hopefully we are not footing his hospital bill.
