Seven-year-old daughter of the Conservative Party of Canada President John Walsh, Georgia Walsh, suffered through a dramatic accident when she was struck by a westbound van that had just made a right turn as she crossed Millwood Road at McRae Drive shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon in Leaside. Though she was rushed to a nearby hospital, she soon gave up to her injuries and could not survive.

According to an official statement issued by the Walsh family on late Wednesday night, they urged for privacy as they come to terms with the “incredible loss” of a “beautiful daughter.” On the other hand, police has confirmed that “we are looking at all possibilities as to what exactly caused this accident.” Const. Clint Stibbe mentioned on Thursday morning that it will also consider possibility of over speeding. He elucidated that “right now we just don’t have all the facts in, but there is the same amount of scrutiny being put into this investigation as there would be into a homicide investigation, so we are looking to see what exactly happened, what the chain of events were and make a determination about what, if an, fault needs to be assessed on either individual.”

In light of the accident, residents in the community are voicing their concern over speed of vehicles in the area as some demand for installation of speed bumps to prevent tragedy from repeating itself. Const. Stibbe alleged that “speed is generally one of the largest complaints we have throughout the city and typically with speed comes injury and in some cases death, however in this case I can’t yet say if it was a factor.”
