Troubled former Alberta premier, Alison Redford, has officially furnished her resignation as the MLA for Calgary-Elbow, effective immediately. According to a formal letter authored by Redford and addressed to Edmonton Journal and Calgary Herald, Redford confessed that mistakes were made during her leadership and “in hindsight, there were many things I would have done differently.” Additionally, she declared “that said, I accept responsibility for all the decisions I have made.”

Earlier to her resignation as an MLA, former Premier Redford resigned from her position as a premier on March 19 after announcing to repay nearly $45,000 for flight expense scandals and because of tension in the government caucus. According to an internal government report unsurfaced last week, Auditor General Merwan Saher established to have found proof that Redford’s staff entered fake passengers into the government’s online flight-booking system and then later removed these passengers before printing a final manifest “to restrict access to Premier Redford on the aircraft.” The report highlighted that “the implications of this practice were that other government employees or elected officials would not have been able to travel” on the government-owned aircraft.

Former Premier Redford has issued a serious statement, which alleged that she wasn’t aware of the “false passengers” and would be surprised if the allegations are true. Recently on Tuesday, anticipated Progressive Conservative leadership contender, Thomas Lukaszuk, asked for the party to call an emergency caucus meeting to discuss kicking Redford out of the party.
