The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an investigation into a fraud targeting elderly members of the Italian community.
It is reported that:
– the suspect(s) approach the victim, usually of Italian descent, and pose as a friend of the family, appearing to have intimate knowledge of the family
-during conversation, the suspect(s) advise that money is owed to them by a relative, and asks the victim to pay the money owed.
Police are advising members of the public, specifically elderly members of the Italian community, to be cautious and vigilant in dealing with anyone making a similar request.
