Surrey RCMP have confirmed to be investigating an alarming incident where a nine-year-old girl was lured from her bedroom, sexually assaulted in a nearby park, and left in a neighbour’s yard. According to Sgt. Dale Carr, police investigators believe that the crime took place between 9:40 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday and now police is moving door-to-door to seek witnesses on Thursday.

It was explained that the young girl was sleeping in her ground-floor bedroom in her family home located at 9900-block 128 Street when the suspect lured her out of her bedroom through an open window. Thereafter, the man took her to a park almost two blocks away where she was allegedly assaulted. The victim was then left at the neighbour’s yard, where she was told not to move until he disappeared. Once the suspect left, the girl returned to her home and informed her mother.

Mr. Carr stated that “certainly, our first concern is for the young girl and then for the community,” adding that the crime was “very rare, but concerning.” He explained that “this is a very high priority for police.” Carr explained that officers are currently speaking with residents in a tight radius around the victim’s home. Additionally, police is considering the option to speak with residents in a wider area. Carr elucidated that “first of all, if anyone saw anything that they thought was a little off (Wednesday) night, anyone lurking in that particular neighbourhood,” adding that “give us a call because we are absolutely interested in anything.”
