Local Progressive Conservatives have mostly expressed endorsement of the recent provincial interparty leader election, which chose Jim Prentice as the ruling party’s leader. The party’s president for riding association for the Medicine Hat constituency, Bill Grady, mentioned that “I’m very pleased, I’m very happy,” adding that “I think he was the right man, and I think he’ll be able to change things around a bit.”

Another MLA who served from 1975-1993 in the Cypress and Cypress-Redcliff ridings, Alan Hyland, also welcomed Prentice, alleging that “I think Jim will do a good job. I’ve known Jim for close to 30 years.” Hyland stated that “I felt if it was going to go (Saturday), it was going to go big, I didn’t know if it would be that big.” Meanwhile, Grady stated that he was surprised by the landslide result, alleging that “I thought Mr. McIver would do a lot better than what he did, but I’m very pleased that it was very decisive, so that it doesn’t have to second guess.”

In addition to that, Grady alleged that he believes Prentice’s first priority as Premier should be to restructure a new cabinet. He mentioned that “some members will have to be moved on, whether they want to be or not,” adding that “I don’t think that you need to do it just to prove that you’re cleaning house, I think you need to do it just to change some of the attitude.”
