On Thursday, November 18, 2010, members of the York Regional Police Drugs and Vice Unit executed a search warrant at Alba Social Club, located at 2150 Steeles Avenue. Police arrested 15 people inside the premise, including five charged as gaming house keepers as well as ten other people found inside. Investigation revealed that illegal poker tables were being operated inside the premise and illegal payouts were provided after patrons paid for the privilege of playing these poker tables.
Subsequent to these arrests, five residential search warrants were executed, including two warrants on Marshall Street in Richmond Hill and three warrants on Meadowhawk Trail in Bradford.
Investigators arrested two people inside two of the residences including one female who was charged in connection with a loaded handgun seized at one of the residences.
Investigators seized more than $130,000 in cash, documents, poker chips, gaming items and a quantity of what is believed to be cocaine, in relation to the operation of the illegal gambling house.
Charges laid in connection with this investigation range from Found in a Common Gaming House, Keeping a Common Gaming House, Owner of a Gaming House, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Careless Storage of a Firearm and Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition.
