The Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper, and the Premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne, have finally had a one-on-one meeting after roughly more than a year. According to an official statement issued by the PMO after the meeting, both leaders “spoke of a number of important issues related to jobs and the economy. Specifically, they agreed on the importance of ongoing investments in infrastructure, including the federal government’s new Building Canada Fund.”

Furthermore, the PMO’s statement said that “they also discussed the need to remove barriers to internal trade, the importance of continued support from both levels of government for the manufacturing and automotive sectors, as well as the important role of resource development for the Ontario and Canadian economies.” It was added that “the leaders agreed that they would remain in touch on these and other issues important to Ontarians and Canadians.”

Whereas on the other hand, Ms. Wynne also issued a statement after the meeting and said that “today’s meeting with the Prime Minister is a positive step forward as we work to build Ontario up and strengthen Canada’s economy. The Prime Minister and I agreed that by collaborating in key areas we can better position Ontario and Canada for economic growth and build more opportunity and security for the people we serve. That is why today I reiterated the importance of infrastructure.” Furthermore, she highlighted that “investments in public infrastructure are one of the most efficient ways for governments to support economic growth and job creation, while fostering a more globally competitive business environment.”
