Interim Progressive Conservative Leader, Jim Wilson, has recently shunned the Liberals and accused them of running a “corrupt” government that will stop at nothing to stay in power. In his remarks, Wilson alleged that the fact there are three OPP investigations looking into the Grits proves the kind of “scandals” that have made public even more cynical about politics.
Addressing reporters at Queen’s Park on Wednesday, Wilson stated that “the government has just lost all integrity on all fronts as far as I am concerned . . . these people just don’t have a conscience and they will do anything to win.” In addition to that, Wilson added that “this session begins with a dark shadow. The Liberals once again have traded their integrity for political gain in the recent Sudbury byelection.” Ontario Provincial Police has accused one of Premier Kathleen Wynne’s most-trusted aides, Pat Sorbara, and Sudbury Liberal activist, Gerry Lougheed, of illegally forcing an ex-Grit candidate, Andrew Olivier, to step down for the position for the appointment of eventual winner Glenn Thibeault.
However, Premier Wynne has consistently denied any wrongdoing, including holding out jobs and or appointments as an inducement for Olivier to back away from running for the Liberals. Her spokeswoman, Zita Astravas, revealed that “our views on this matter are well known, any suggestion that anything was offered in exchange for any action is false.” Wynne added that “it is common for an investigator to make an allegation in an ITO (Information to Obtain) in order to obtain a production order. It is in no way confirmation that an offence has occurred. We will of course co-operate fully.”
