Several people were taken into custody early this morning in connection with a gang-related shooting overnight on Oak Street. Six men and three women are being treated for gunshot wounds. Two of the nine victims are in critical condition and a tenth victim has refused treatment.

Shortly after 2:00 a.m., multiple callers to 9-1-1 reported hearing shots fired near Oak Street and W.22nd Avenue. When officers arrived in the area they found a number of people suffering from gunshot wounds in the 3800 block of Oak Street. Additional victims were found a short distance away on the street and more turned up at local area hospitals over the next hour, having made their way there in private vehicles.

A number of witnesses were taken to the police station for interviews and the investigation is continuing.

Cst. Jana McGuinness, commenting from the scene of the shooting, said, "This is an outrageous display of gang-related violence that will anger the community and cause concerns for people living in the area." She went on to say, "The investigation is proceeding well and we want to reassure the community that we have many resources dedicated to finding those responsible."
