The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Economic Crime Unit is issuing a public advisory and requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a “person of interest” involved in a card skimming ring operating in the St. John’s and surrounding area.

The RNC Economic Crime Unit is currently investigating ten separate card skimming incidents whereby the same adult male has placed an overlay on ATMs at financial institutions and also obtained the customer’s PIN to commit frauds. The RNC Investigators have further determined that this person is not acting alone.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary would like to caution consumers during this busy Christmas season that they should take all necessary precautions to protect their Personal Identification number, examine an ATM for irregularities prior to use and report all suspicious activity to the RNC.
