On June 4, 2015 at 3:20 a.m. Penticton RCMP attended to a shots fired complaint in the 1000 block of Lakeshore Drive in Penticton and located a deceased man.

The notification of the next of kin was formally completed yesterday and The Penticton General Investigative Service (GIS) Unit is now in a position to confirm the name of the deceased as that of 36 year old Darren Leadbeater of Penticton. While investigative efforts continue, the forensic examination of the residence in the 2000 block of Carmi Road has been completed.

We recognize there has been some speculation by members of the community that the RCMP have been tight lipped about releasing information regarding this investigation. Cpl. Dave Tyreman, Acting Southeast District Media Relations Officer stated, I want to take this time to thank the citizens of Penticton for their patience during this complex investigation. We want you to understand that in any investigation, we must always consider the fine balance between providing full details of any incident to a community and the need to protect the integrity of an investigation and that of any future court process.

I understand that anytime there is a homicide in a close knit community such as Penticton, there are a lot of unanswered questions. We would like to reassure you that this homicide is believed to be an isolated, targeted occurrence and the public is not currently at risk.

Our dedicated team of investigators is focused on determining the facts and gathering evidence. As such, we are reaching out to the public and ask that anyone who has information regarding the incident from the Golden Sands Motel on Thursday June 4th, or has information regarding the death of Darren Leadbeater, to please contact the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300 or if you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

The family of Darren Leadbeater has respectfully requested privacy during this very difficult time.

As the investigation into the death of Mr. Leadbeater is active, ongoing, and progressing, no further information will be released at this time.
