Drunken man tasered by police in Pickering

An intoxicated male, earlier banned from re-entry into a Pickering bar, returned home and was Tasered by police following an armed stand-off with officers.

On Thursday December 23, 2010 at approximately 1:10 a.m. officers from West Division responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the vicinity of Finch Avenue at Fairport Road in Pickering after family members had contacted police. Upon arrival, officers were confronted by a 19-year-old distraught male armed with two knives, who would not comply with orders to put down his weapons.

After numerous attempts to de-escalate the situation and reason with the male, police deployed the conducted energy weapon (TASER) and apprehended the male, without incident. The accused was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to a local hospital for assessment, following his medical clearance at scene by EMS personnel.
