On Friday, December 24, 2010 at 3:00 am, the Ottawa Police Service responded to several calls from witnesses stating that a male victim was trapped under the body of a truck in a parking garage on George Street. Ottawa Paramedic Service and Ottawa Fire Department responded and the victim was freed. He was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.

The son of former Newfoundland premier Brain Tobin has been charged. Jack Tobin, 24, was charged early Saturday with impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death and driving over the legal limit result in a death.

Victim and friend of Jack Tobin as been identified as Alex Zolpis, a 24-year-old student in his final year at Dalhousie University in Halifax.

Several witnesses are presently being interviewed by the Ottawa Police. The investigation is ongoing.
