The Surrey RCMP have issued video surveillance images of a Langley man suspected in the sexual assault case of a 70-year-old woman in her Cloverdale home on Wednesday. The incident took place on Aug. 12, when a woman was attacked while coming back to her South Surrey home in the morning. The suspect entered the home beside her, presented a weapon and confined the woman by restraining her.

According to the RCMP, the suspect demanded cash and other items but since the woman failed to provide them, “the male proceeded to both physically and sexually assault the woman causing significant injuries. The male eventually departed with only a few items.” Thereafter, the women freed herself from the restraints and took refuge at a neighbour’s home where she called the police. Surrey RCMP Sgt. Dale Carr. Stated that “the woman is in hospital being treated for her non-life-threatening injuries.” The images gathered from video surveillance were caught by security cameras at the Brookswood RBC, i.e. located at 20059 40th Ave., where the suspect used the ATM at approximately 1:57 p.m. on Aug. 12.

Cpl. Scotty Schumann stated that “the Surrey RCMP has released these photographs of the suspect to seek the public’s assistance in furthering the police investigation into these serious crimes,” adding that “we’re hopeful someone will recognize this man and notify police.” The case is being pursued by both The Surrey RCMP Serious Crime unit and Lower Mainland District Forensic Identification Team. Carr alleged that “the smallest bit of information may assist this investigation in swiftly capturing this male.”
