The Calgary Police Service has charged a local man in connection with three violent robberies involving cab drivers.

On Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at approximately 1:15 a.m., police were called to a housing complex in the 200 block of Prestwick Acres Lane S.E., for reports of a cab driver who had been assaulted and robbed by a fare. Police attended the area, but weren’t able to locate the offender.

The next day, at approximately 2 a.m., another cab driver was assaulted by a man posing a fare. This man had also asked the driver to take him to a location on Prestwick Acres Lane S.E.

In a third incident on Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, a cab driver was assaulted and robbed by a fare who asked for a ride from a business located in the 4900 block of 130 Avenue S.E., to a location in the southeast community of Franklin.

The description of the suspect in these cases and the manner in which the crimes were committed, led investigators to believe the same person was responsible for all three.

On Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, police arrested Andre Joseph BRUNET, 24, of no-fixed-address in Calgary, for three counts of robbery and several other offences in connection with these incidents.

Police continue to investigate these offences and are asking for public assistance in identifying a man who may have additional information about the Dec. 20th robbery. A photo of this man is available at the City of Calgary Newsroom.
