Two girls survive head on accident, Whitby

Two 18-year-old females were seriously injured as a result of a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Thickson Road north of Consumers Drive in Whitby last night.

On January 17th, 2011 at approximately 6:00 p.m., officers from Central West Division were called to the scene of a two vehicle collision. A black Chevrolet Optra, driven by an 18-year-old Whitby female, was southbound on Thickson Road, when it suddenly lost control and crossed the centre line. The Optra then collided head on with a large northbound Kenworth delivery truck, driven by a 29-year-old Cobourg male.

The two female occupants of the Optra had to be freed from the wreckage by fire personnel. An 18-year-old female passenger was transported to Lakeridge Health – Oshawa with serious injuries. The 18-year-old driver was taken to the Oshawa Municipal Airport where she was airlifted to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto Two occupants in the delivery truck were uninjured as a result of the collision.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. Investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have information or who may have witnessed this incident.

Investigators would like to speak with the driver and/or passengers of a dark coloured, newer model SUV travelling in the area at the time of the collision.
