The Hamilton Police Service has arrested and charged a Hamilton youth with Aggravated Assault after investigating an assault at an area high school.

On Tuesday, January 18th, 2011 Hamilton Police were called to Cathedral High School, 30 Wentworth St. N. Hamilton, to investigate an assault that had taken place on school property. The responding officers spoke with the two youths involved, their parents and the school administration. One of the youths was taken to hospital by his parent for treatment of his injuries, that were significant but non-life threatening. The second youth involved did not require medical attention. The report was forwarded to the Division One Detectives for continued investigation.

During the investigation, it came to the attention of Hamilton Police that a video of the assault was posted on You Tube. The video has since been removed from the popular social media site. After reviewing the video it was apparent that there were a number of other students that were present during the assault. Hamilton Police are encouraging those students to do the right thing and speak to police about what they witnessed.

The Hamilton Police Division One Detectives, with the assistance of the Child Abuse Branch continued with the investigation and today one of the youths involved in the fight was arrested. He is expected to appear in court today for a bail hearing.
