Toronto man Kirk Vernal charged with murder of Okene Thompson

On Sunday, February 13, 2011, at 5:27 a.m., police responded to a call for a shooting in the Weston Road/Lawrence Avenue West area.

It was reported that:

– police located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head,

He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, February 16, 2011, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Okene Thompson, 20, of Toronto.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Friday, February 18, 2011.

On Friday, February 18, 2011, Kirk Vernal, 30, of Toronto, was charged with:

1) First Degree Murder.

He is scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, room 206, at 10 a.m.
