corbyn reelected as labour leader, promises ‘more power’ to activistsRecently reelected leader of the Labour party, Jeremy Corbyn, has promised to give more power over policy-making to grass-roots Labour supporters and vowed to work toward building a “more equal and decent society”. In his remarks, Corbyn alleged that he will change the way decisions are taken in the party, guiding the MPs critical of his leadership to now focus on “making the party and the movement stronger.”

Mr. Corbyn inquired about MI6’s plans to expand and stated that UK troops should not be immune from legal claims over past conduct. The Labour leader acknowledged the “differences of opinion” between him and many of his MPs on policy but he stressed that there was also a “great deal of unanimity”. Moving forward, Mr Corbyn hoped there will be less top-down approach to policy making and he would seek more input from grass roots activists and the party conference. The next party conference is scheduled on Sunday in Liverpool and Corbyn says it will be the “centre of concluding policy debates,” adding that “there is a lot of thirst for change out there” and “people want to see things done differently.”

In response to his critics, Corbyn alleged that the MPs should acknowledge the Labour party’s growing party membership because it has swelled to more than half a million since the general election and now these supporters will have more say in decisions as part of “grass-roots policy making”. His message to critical MPs was to “make sure you agree on policy and go out and do it”.
