15 year old boy killed on his way to school, Hamilton

The Hamilton Police Service is investigating the City of Hamilton’s 7th traffic fatality and is asking witnesses of the collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit.

On Monday March 7th, 2011 at approximately 8:30 a.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred in the intersection of Howe Ave. and East 14th St., Hamilton.

A minivan that was westbound on Howe Ave. was struck by a SUV that was northbound on East 14th St. This intersection is controlled by a stop sign for northbound and southbound traffic on East 14th St. After the vehicles collided the van was sent out of control in a northwest direction. The van struck a 15 yr. old male pedestrian who was walking eastbound on the north sidewalk of Howe Ave. The male was trapped under the van and efforts were made by bystanders to disengage him from underneath. Emergency Services were notified and Paramedics, Firefighters, and Police attended. The male was disengaged by firefighters and taken to hospital by ambulance. The youth succumbed to his injuries at hospital.

The deceased is a 15 yr. old Hamilton youth who was walking to school at the time of the incident. His parents have been notified and are being assisted by friends at this time. His name is not being released at the request of the family. No other persons were physically injured as a result of this collision.
