44 year old man arrested for murder in Langford, BC

Shortly before 11:00 pm last night, the West Shore RCMP received a report that a man had been murdered in a residence in the 2000 block of Jeanine Drive, in Langford, BC.

West Shore RCMP officers responded to the residence, where they located a deceased man in the main living area of the home. The man has been identified as a 53 year old Langford resident. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Officers with the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU), were called in to lead this investigation. VIIMCU, along with West Shore RCMP General Duty members, and the Victoria Police Dog Service worked throughout the night on this investigation. The identity of a suspect was known to police in the early stages of this investigation.

At 7:15 am this morning, the lone suspect, a 44 year old Langford man, was arrested without incident. This man remains in the custody of West Shore RCMP. He is expected to make an appearance before a Justice later today, facing charges related to murder, and unlawful confinement. The identity of the suspect will not be released until his first Court appearance, and the formal laying of charges. This individual is not known to police for previous instances of violence.

Two women who were at the residence earlier in the evening have been located by police. These woman are considered witnesses, and continue to cooperate with investigators.

The residence in the 2000 block of Jeanine Drive remains the primary scene for investigators. This residence is secured behind police tape, and will remain so for the coming days. A methodical examination of the residence is being conducted by the RCMP Forensic Identification Section.

The BC Coroners Service is involved, and will conduct an autopsy in the coming days. At this time, investigators are unable to speak to a cause of death, or specific injuries suffered by the deceased.
