Canada Basketball is pleased to announce the 12 athletes selected for the 2011 Men’s Pan-American Games Team. The 16th Pan-American Games will be hosted by Guadalajara, Mexico and will take place from October 14 – 30th. The men’s basketball competition will be held from October 26 to 30th
Canada was drawn into Group A for preliminary play, where they will face Argentina, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. The top two teams from group A and B will move onto the semi-finals; while the remaining two teams from each group will play in the classification round for positions fifth to eighth.

The roster, made up entirely of CIS athletes, features eleven members from Canada’s  Development Men’s Team that captured the silver medal at the 2011 Summer Universiade. The roster also includes Phil Scrubb (Richmond, BC), from the Junior National Team that finished 11th at the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championships.

The team will be led by Carleton University Head Coach, Dave Smart (Kingston, ON). Smart previously served as an assistant with the 2008 Senior Men’s National Team. Since being named the head coach at Carleton University, Smart has been named the CIS Coach of the Year four times and lead the Ravens to seven national titles.
He will be joined by assistants Craig Beaucamp (Burnaby, BC) who is the head coach of the men’s program at the University of Victoria and McGill men’s basketball head coach David DeAveiro (Toronto, ON).
Canada finished seventh overall at the 2007 Pan-American games hosted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The first game will be October 26th when Canada faces Argentina at 10:30 am local time (11:30 am ET).
