Jay Triano selected as Co-head Coach
USA Basketball announced that Toronto Raptors guard-forward DeMar DeRozan has been named to the 2012 USA Basketball Select Team. The 13 member Select Team will assemble in Las Vegas and conduct a training session July 5, then train with the USA Basketball Men’s National Team July 6-11.
DeRozan averaged 16.7 points, 3.3. rebounds and team-best 35.0 minutes during the 2011-12 season. He scored in double figures in 52 of his 63 appearances and scored 20 or more points on 26 occasions. DeRozan also ranked 10th among all qualified Eastern Conference players in scoring after the All-Star break (17.8 ppg).
DeRozan has prior USA Basketball experience, having played on the 2008 USA Junior National Select Team that competed in the Nike Hoop Summit.
“The USA Select Team was a vital part of the USA Men’s National Team’s training in 2007, 2008 and 2010, and again in 2012 we’ll utilize this team of select NBA players to help get our National Team ready for the very competitive summer that is ahead of us,” said Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball chairman.
USA Basketball also announced Raptors Vice-President, Pro Scouting, Jay Triano will serve as co-head coach of the USA Select Team. Triano was tabbed as an assistant coach for the USA Basketball Men’s National Team at the 2010 World Championship. He also served as an assistant coach for the 2007 and 2008 USA Basketball Select Teams.
