Moncton Miracles Shut Down the Montreal Jazz

The Moncton Miracles, presented by Rogers, beat the Montreal Jazz  with a final score of 111-96. The Miracles now sit with a 13-15 record.

Miracles Isaac Butts started the game off right going hard to the net, making the basket and drawing the foul giving his team a 3-0 lead. Jazz’s Juan Mendez would hit a 3 effortlessly with 9 minutes left in the first quarter to tie the game up early at 7-7. Montreal would then get a hot hand and pull ahead 7-12.

They would continue to drain 3’s and go on another run and have a 14-21 advantage with 4 minutes remaining. Herman Favors would enter the game for the Miracles and the team would go on a run of their own and regain control of the scoreboard, 22-21. The first quarter ended with the game tied up at 29-29.

Jazz’s Eric Frederick would continue to hit outside shots, hitting 5 3-point shots early in the game and leading his team with 21 points. With just over 7 minutes on the clock in the second quarter Montreal was leading 39-42.  Montreal would continue to make their outside shots and beat Moncton down the floor. The first half would end with the Montreal Jazz holding on to a 47-54 lead.

Miracles would come out strong in the third quarter on a 10-0 run and take a 57-54 lead less than 2 minutes into the third quarter. Oliver McNally would go 2 for 2 from the line giving Moncton their first 10-point lead of the game, 68-58. They would lead by as many as 20-points in the second half and maintain control for the last 24 minutes of play.

Isaac Butts led the way for the Miracles with 27 points and 20 rebounds. Devin Sweeney followed with 20 points and Darrell Wonge with 15.

Eric Frederick was the force for the Jazz with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Hagan was next with 24 points and Courtland with 21.

The Miracles play their next game at home on Saturday, January 19th against the Oshawa Power.  Tip-off is 7pm at the Moncton Coliseum.
