March Madness 2023 Begins

The day before Selection Sunday during March Madness is known as Saturday, and it’s a highly eventful and frenzied day. This day offers 13 conference tournament championship games, each of which will award an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. No other day can offer the same amount of action and drama.

While some teams have already secured their spot in the NCAA Tournament, many programs will be disappointed as their journey comes to an end. The excitement of the day comes from the leagues where only the winner of the tournament will earn a spot in the Big Dance, such as the ACC, Big 12, Big East, and Pac-12.

Teams on the bubble, or those whose selection to the NCAA Tournament is uncertain, will be watching closely and hoping that no “bid-stealers” emerge, such as UAB, who will be competing against FAU in the Conference USA Tournament final. The Owls have most likely earned a bid in the NCAA Tournament, but if they lose to the Blazers, UAB will claim the automatic bid and FAU may have to settle for an at-large bid.

The MAAC Tournament final may also see an unexpected outcome, with No. 11 seed Marist making it to the final to compete against No. 1 seed Iona, and possibly becoming the Cinderella story of the tournament.

Overall, Saturday is one of the craziest days of March Madness, with so much action and so many unpredictable outcomes.
