Canada Basketball’s Senior Women’s National Team will take on Brazil on Friday, October 1 (tip-off 11 a.m. local time) in a classification game at the 2010 FIBA World Championship for Women.

Canada successfully beat China (65-61) in the preliminary round of the tournament to finish in third place in Group A with a record of 1-2. In the eighth-final round, Canada was defeated by a dominant USA team, and was on the losing end of close matches with Greece and France. Both Canada and Brazil have a 1-5 record and will battle to compete for 9th place. The winner of Friday’s match will advance to the 9th place game, which will be held on October 2 (tip-off 11 a.m. local time).

This event marks back-to-back tournaments for women’s squad that also successfully qualified to compete in the 2006 edition of the world championship after 12 years.
