An India – Pakistan match is an exciting prospect in itself, and when you have the two teams competing in a World Cup, and that too at the knockout stage of the match, then the excitement soars through the roof.

Over one billion Indians and millions of Pakistanis all over the world will be glued to their TV sets or watch the live stream on the internet. The game will be huge. It is rare for an India-Pakistan game to be one sided, and although India have won all four matches that the two teams have played against each other at World Cups, there is no telling what the semi-final will provide.
Assessing the two teams, Pakistan’s strength lies in their bowling and India’s in their batting. Pakistan has the likes of Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, and Shahid Afridi, who is the leading wicket taker in the World Cup so far. However, Pakistan is very unpredictable. They beat Australia in the group game and yet had a horrid time against a minnow like Canada.
India, on the other hand, do not seem to possess any bowler of great quality except Zaheer Khan. However, India’s batting, specially the opening pair of Tendulkar and Sehwag, can tear any bowling apart.
Two positives that India can take from the game against Australia are that the fielding has improved vastly, and that India, for a change, seemed to play the short ball with relative ease, something that is not associated with India.
The India-Australia quarter final was huge, and it didn’t matter how much sunscreen Australians applied, because they did not have UV protection! Yuvraj Singh went on to pick two wickets and smashed a half century to collect his fourth man of the match award in the tournament.
Pakistan beat West Indies with relative ease to enter the semi-final but defeating India will be a real challenge. Will Pakistan be up to the task or will India win once again?
The semi-final will be played on March 30. The match will start in the afternoon in the subcontinent, but early in the morning in the West. I wonder how many Indians and Pakistanis in the West will be calling in sick to school and work.
India and Pakistan will meet each other at Mohali, while Australia will meet West Indies….. at the airport.
