The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to announce that LB Greg Blue and DB Jeremy Unertl (pro: YOU-NER-TLE) have signed with the club.

Blue is an experienced linebacker who was a fifth round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2006. He dressed for all of Minnesota’s 16 games as a rookie, played on special teams, and recorded 14 tackles. Blue also suited up for four games with the NFL’s Detroit Lions in 2007. The Georgia University product didn’t miss a game while playing college football for the Bulldogs. In his final two seasons, he recorded 156 tackles, three forced fumbles and two interceptions. As a senior, he earned All-SEC honours and was named First-Team All-American.

At 6-feet, 4-inches tall, Unertl is now the tallest DB in the Argos’ secondary. A four-year letter winner at the University of Wisonsin-La Crosse, Unertl led NFL Europa in interceptions and won a World Bowl championship with the Frankfurt Galaxy in 2003. Three years later, he was MVP of the AFL’s Chicago Rush, leading the team in tackles, interceptions and pass knock downs, and was crowned an Arena Bowl champion in 2007. The former All-Arena standout has also been on training camp rosters with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens, been a member of the AFL’s Columbus Destroyers and Las Vegas Gladiators and was recently a member of the UFL’s California Redwoods.

2007: Attended training camp and released by the Minnesota Vikings as a final cut…Signed as a free agent with the Detroit Lions on November 19…Dressed in four games and had 9 tackles and a pass knock down.
2006: Selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings…Dressed in all 16 games, mostly on special teams…Recorded 14 tackles (12 solo) on the season.

College: Played four years at the University of Georgia (2002-05) and did not miss a game…Played the Rover position (safety/defensive back) in Georgia’s defence…In his final two seasons with the Bulldogs, he recorded 156 tackles, 134 solo tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss, 11 quarterback pressures, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions and eight deflected passes…As a senior, he earned All-SEC honors and was an All-American First-team selection.

Personal: Greg is the father of twin infant boys, Shaun & Christian. He’s from Georgia but lives in Minnesota in the off-season. He enjoys bowling, watching movies and spending time with his sons. In high school, Greg was named all-state in football and basketball.

2009: Jeremy was drafted by the California Redwoods of the UFL (United Football League)…Signed with the team on August 18 and made the team…Released following week 1 of the season.
2008: Started 16 games for Chicago and made 92.5 DT and 5 INT for 114 yards and 2 TDs.
2007: Led 12-4 Chicago Rush team to Central Division title…Named Second-Team All-Arena at defensive back…Named Defensive Player of the Game twice…Started 16 games for the Rush…Recorded 72.5 tackles, 6 INTs and 22 PKDs… Recorded 4 DT, 1 INT and 2 PKDs in the American Conference Final…Recorded 5 DT and returned an INT 24 yards for a TD on the first possession of game in Divisional playoff game.
2006: Traded from Columbus Destroyers to Chicago Rush for Henry Douglas…Named Defensive Player of the Game in all three games of a three- game winning streak, named Defensive Player of the game five times on the season…Named Chicago’s Team MVP…Led Rush in tackles (72.5), interceptions (6) and pass break-ups (22)…Won Arena Bowl Championship with Chicago.
2005: Attended training camp with Las Vegas and released during the season…Claimed off waivers by the Columbus Destroyers (AFL)…Finished season with 13 receptions for 101 yards, 50 tackles, 1 INT, 2 FF and 1 fumble recovered
2004: Signed as a free agent with Las Vegas Gladiators (AFL)…Played in 6 games recording 12 tackles, 1 pass broken-up.
2003: Re-signed by the Green Bay Packers and allocated to NFL Europa where he played for the Frankfurt Galaxy…Finished season with 29 tackles, 9 pass knockdowns, 4 INTs for 52 yards and 1 forced fumble…Led NFLE in interceptions…Made 6 tackles in World Bowl XI championship win…Returned to Green Bay and attended training camp…Released on August 29 as a final training camp cut.
2002: Signed as a free agent with the Green Bay Packers (NFL) attended training camp and released on July 22…Signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Ravens (NFL) on August 12 and was released as a final training camp cut.

College: Four-year letter winner (1997-01) at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse…Upon graduation he ranked sixth in school history with 16 interceptions and recorded 209 career tackles. ..Named an Academic All-American.

Personal: Jeremy Unertl (pro: YOU-NER-TLE) lives in Las Vegas, Nevada in the off-season with his girlfriend, Kasie. He earned a Finance degree at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and has worked in oil futures trading. An avid golfer, Jeremy says that after football he’d like to put his Finance degree to good use.
