The St. John’s IceCaps today announced they have loaned forward Michael Forney and traded forward Shawn Weller to the Texas Stars in exchange for forward Raymond Sawada.
Sawada, 27, has played in 26 games with Texas this season for 16 points (6G, 10A) and 19 penalty minutes. He spent the 2008-09 season with the Manitoba Moose apearing in 52 games for 21 points (6G, 15A). The Richmond, BC native has played in 11 career NHL games with Dallas and scored his first NHL goal in his NHL debut on Feb. 19/09.
The right-handed winger has played in 205 career AHL games between Iowa, Manitoba and Texas for 94 points (33G, 58A) and 247 penalty minutes. Sawada was orginally drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round, 52nd overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
