After a full 2nd day’s off due to rainy weather, Day 3 proves to bring excitement to the match through dramatic changes. First the hosts successfully made 187-3 on the back of a pair of seventies from Tharanga Paranavitana and Thilan Samaraweera. But a 5-wicket haul from the young bowling speedster Junaid Khan bring Pakistan back into the game. However, Sri Lanka has successfully taken a lead of 111 runs with the help of brilliant play presented by Thisara Perera (75).
Sri Lanka is already leading this test series with 1-0 and also dominating in this final test match. S ri Lanka remain successful in providing the home audience an enjoyable play by resuming 44-3 in pursuit of 226. A worthy 4th wicket partnership of 143 was broken by Saeed Ajmal with Samaraweera trapped in front of his stumps at 73. This broken partnership brings other two wickets of Mathews (9) and Paranavitana (75). Then Umar Gul struck instantly with a second new ball to send Jayawardene back at 20 to reduce Sri Lanka to 236-7. However, a surprising 84 runs 8th wicket partnership between Perera (75) and Kulasekara (33) gave an edge to the hosts. The host’s 1st inning was wrapped up at 337.
As the day was about to end Pakistan has started its second inning till Taufeeq Umer get trapped in front of his stumps by Kulasekara at 4. That was a bad decision by Umpire Simon Taufel as the ball was clearly pitching outside. Then the stumps were called as Pakistan made 27-1 in 6 overs spell.
Sri Lanka is still having an upper hand in this match and hoping to wrap up the series with a 2-0. But two days are still left to play, which will hopefully add to the excitement that was witnessed today.
