2012 The Barclays – the FedEx Cup got underway Thursday at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y., with the top 125 golfers in the world teeing off for the first round of action in the Barclays. Action will start from Thursday morning with the first groups started playing at 7:10.
Tiger Woods, who sits atop the FedEx Cup points rankings after three wins on tour this season, headlines the event in a group paired with Rory McIlroy, ranked No. 3, who won the PGA Championship earlier this month, and Zach Johnson.
Jeff Maggert, who was born in Columbia, Missouri, will try to keep his Tour card for the 2013 season, which will depend on finishing ranked in the Top 125 of the points standings at the end of the month. He’s currently on the right side of that line, with a ranking of No. 107.
Jim Furyk, born in West Chester, Pa., enters the tournament ranked No. 16 in the FedEx Cup Standings. He will tee off at 12:44 p.m. from the first hole along with Rickie Fowler and Brandt Snedeker.
Sean O’Hair, who resides in West Chester, comes into the tournament ranked No. 63. He teed off at 7:21 a.m. from the first hole, along with Ryan Moore and Aaron Baddeley.
Keegan Bradley, who’s playing well at the end of the Summer, is expected to make plenty of noise at the 2012 Barclays and advance on to the second leg of the playoffs in Boston. He is one of the favorites to bring home the $10 million prize.
Only the top 100 of the 125 in the field this week will move on to the Deutshe Bank in Boston. Bradley is a lock to advance and play in front of the home crowd for the second year in a row.
