On the opening day of the BMW Championship 2012, a number of players opened with low scores. However, it was none other than Rory McIlory who headlined a group of four men that put forth opening rounds of 64 on Thursday.
McIlroy is tied with Webb Simpson, Bo Van Pelt and Graham DeLaet for the 18-hole lead at 8-under, while Tiger Woods and Vijay Sing lurk just one stroke off the pace after firing 7-under rounds of 65 to open the tournament. After Woods and Singh sit a tight field of notable contenders that include Adam Scott (4-under) and Phil Mickelson (3-under).
Chicago native Mark Wilson was unable to finish in red numbers on Thursday despite the impressive performance, and currently sits in a tie for 57th place after an even par round of 72. Wilson bogeyed both the 17th and 18th holes to spoil a day where he recorded 12 pars, and now faces an uphill battle in Friday’s round.
Tee times for Friday’s 2012 BMW championship have been moved up due to chances for a bad weather. Golfers will begin teeing off at 8 a.m.
McIlroy tees off at 9:39 a.m. in a group that includes Tiger Woods, who shot a 7-under in the first round. Nick Watney (2-under) is the third in their group.
DeLaet tees off at 9:50 a.m. and Simpson and Van Pelt tee off in the same group at 9:28 a.m.
