South Africa will start their campaign to shed the `chokers` tag when they take on minnows Zimbabwe in their opening Group C match of the World Twenty20 on Thursday at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Sooriyawewa, Hambantota.
The game is expected to be an easy one for the Proteas as it would take a very special effort from Zimbabwe after being thrashed by hosts Sri Lanka in their opening match yesterday. It looks like an unequal battle with the A B de Villiers-led South Africa looking way too formidable for Brendan Taylor`s Zimbabwe. In each format of the cricket game, the South African stand far superior in talent and experience. South Africa has many good players like AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis and Morne Morkel. They are now in the good form and to take their team to victory. The probable South African squad include: A.B. De Villiers (c), Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Johan Botha, JP Duminy, Francois du Plessis, Jacques Kallis, Richard Levi, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Justin Ontong, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe.
Zimbabwe already played one match against Sri Lanka and they have defeated by 82 runs. Zimbabwe won the toss and chooses to bowl first. They made the wrong decision and Sri Lankan batsmen totally utilized this opportunity. They played well in the first inning of this match and made 182 runs in 20 overs and they lose their 4 wickets. But Zimbabwe team gone at only 100 runs and defeated by 82 runs. And it would be tough for Zimbabwe to bounce back from the opening-match thrashing against a quality opposition, for which winning this match would be good enough to make the Super Eight cut.
