England will clash against West Indies in 2nd Super Eights Match and 14th Match of the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup today at Pallekele. Match is scheduled to begin at 19:30 local time (14:00 GMT)
This match promises to be an interesting one as both sides, West Indies and England, have had a tricky trip so far. West Indies have advanced without winning a single game. However, England come in on the back of a demoralising loss to India. So, neither side looks more dominant than the other.
The defending champions, England would have entered this tournament with high hopes. They have a stack of T20 specialists to choose from, but as their final group game against India showed, they may not necessarily have the right specialists to choose from.
Chasing a competitive 171-run target, England failed to score against the turning ball as spin duo of Harbhajan Singh and Piyush Chawla broke English batting line-up to bundle them out for a paltry 80. Against India, the only English batsman to show some teeth was wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter, who scored a 25-ball 35. The probable English squad may include: Craig Kieswetter (wk), Alex Hales, Luke Wright, Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Jonathan Bairstow, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad (c), Graeme Swann, Steven Finn, Jade Dernbach.
The West Indians haven’t been considered among the contenders for a major tournament since 1983. Having Chris Gayle in their team in a T20 game changes all that in a hurry. Add true T20 stars such as Keiran Pollard, Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine, and a truly intimidating force emerges for whom the tag favorite may be more suitable than a mere contender. The West Indian line up likely to play will include: Chris Gayle, Johnson Charles, Marlon Samuels, Darren Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Darren Sammy(c), Denesh Ramdin(wk), Ravi Rampaul, Sunil Narine, Fidel Edwards.
