After a tiring week of intense cricket in the ICC World T20 during the Super Eights stage, hosts Sri Lanka will meet familiar opponents Pakistan in the first semi-final today, October 4, 2012, at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Pakistan will be aiming to dominate the hosts in the clash to make it through to the Final. The battle will take place between the two sides who had met in the final of the 2009 edition of the tournament in England where Pakistan emerged victorious.
Now this time Mohammad Hafeez and his boys will be facing a tough Sri Lankan team in their own backyard which is a sort of advantageous for the hosts. But Pakistani side is feeling high after a big win against the unbeaten Aussies. Also the luck is on their side as their dramatic entry to the Semi-finals. The probable Pakistani squad will include: Mohammad Hafeez (capt), Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Imran Nazir, Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Sami, Nasir Jamshed, Raza Hasan, Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Akmal, Umar Gul, Yasir Arafat.
The most interesting thing to watch will be the clash between the top quality spin departments of both sides. The most captivating of the battles will be between two mystery spinners – Ajantha Mendis and Saeed Ajmal.
In this clash against Pakistan, Sri Lanka will be playing its first match at the Premadasa, a sort of support for the home team. Pakistan will have a slight advantage simply because they have played three matches in this competition at the same venue, but quite obviously, no team is as literally at home at the Premadasa as Sri Lanka. The likely Sri Lankan line-up will include: Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Akila Dananjaya, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Shaminda Eranga, Rangana Herath, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga, Ajantha Mendis, Jeevan Mendis, Dilshan Munaweera, Thisara Perera, Kumar Sangakkara, Lahiru Thirimanne.
