The qualifying stage of the T20 Champions League continues with the action moving to Centurion as the Hampshire Royals will take on Auckland Aces on October 10, 2012, 10:30PM AET at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
The Aces have yesterday proven their dominance by defeating the Sialkot Stallions with 6 wickets after restricting them to a mere total of 130 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Now, they have a consecutive 2nd and final match for qualifying round of their pool. Lining up as something of Golden Oldies XI with the likes of Andre Adams, Chris Martin, Kyle Mills, Lou Vincent, skipper Gareth Hopkins and Azhar Mahmood all the wrong side of 30, and several closer to 40, it would be difficult for them to play today as well. But the game of T20 is not as tiring as other formats due to its shorter duration. The probable Aces lineup will include: GJ Hopkins*, AR Adams, Azhar Mahmood, MD Bates, B Cachopa†, C de Grandhomme, MJ Guptill, RM Hira, AK Kitchen, MJ McClenaghan, BP Martin, CS Martin, KD Mills, C Munro, L Vincent.
Hampshire will miss spinner Danny Briggs, one of the stars of the Friends Life Provident T20, who misses out to get married, having put his original wedding date back when he was called into the England squad for the T20 World Cup. Captain Dimitri Mascarenhas has the IPL experience and Sean Ervine is a dangerous player of bat as well as a useful bowler, while Shahid Afridi brings vast international level experience and the ability to win the game with either bat or ball. The likely Royal’s squad will include: AD Mascarenhas*, JHK Adams, Kabir Ali, DJ Balcombe, MD Bates†, MA Carberry, LA Dawson, SM Ervine, DA Griffiths, GJ Maxwell, H Riazuddin, BM Shafayat, Shahid Afridi, JM Vince, CP Wood.
