The Fall Series of The McGladrey Classic Championship gets started this week in Georgia from St. Simons Island.
The tournament is hosted by the Davis Love association, and charitable beneficiaries include Special Olympics and the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia. Team McGladrey members Davis Love III, Zach Johnson and Chris DiMarco will be tied at the 2012 McGladrey Classic along with 129 other PGA TOUR Professionals.
Seaside Course Club has 70 golf courses that will be playing at 7,055 yards this weekend. There will be 132 players expected to play here this weekend. Besides, this is one of the easier tracks on Tour, and it’s moderately petite length will provide scoring openings for even the reasonable players.
One reason is the home advantage and other relatively sturdy play of Davis Love III should make him a favorite this week at St. Simons. Another home player Iowan turned Georgian Zach Johnson is also one of the bigger names in presence.
The tournament also includes Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, and Jason Day. This will be Furyk’s first tournament since he lost to Sergio Garcia. He inevitably took the Ryder Cup loss more serious than any other American team.
Singh is perhaps the leading player in the history of golf; last week at the Frys.com Open he had his best end of the season.
