Sri Lanka will look to battle New Zealand in the one-off T20I at Pallekele. It is not a highlights package or an action replay of the tied match between these two nations during the World Cup. Rather it is a new beginning of a new series for both sides. Sri Lanka will be led by Angelo Mathews in this T20 match while New Zealand will look to polish their skills well against spin.
This this series offers a chance for both Sri Lanka and New Zealand to emerge out of the Ashes and have a new life. The current fortunes of both the teams have made their respective fans disappointed.
For the Sri Lankan team and its fan, the pain continues. Four ICC tournament finals since 2007, the team is suffering hard by missing consecutive chances. A golden chance was again wasted due to hard luck on the night of October 7th when Sri Lanka failed to chase down 136 in the T20 World Cup final against the West Indies. With each and every loss, the despair of the Sri Lankan team and their fans is getting heightened. The probable Sri Lankan squad will include: Tillakaratne Dilshan, Dilshan Munaweera, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews (c), Jeevan Mendis, Thisara Perera, Lahiru Thirimanne, Akila Dananjaya, Sachithra Senanayake, Upul Tharanga.
For the New Zealand team and its fans, the stagnation and disinterest is clearly visible. The Kiwis have failed to win a match against big opponents since their famous win against Australia in Hobart in late 2011. Their recent troubles against spin are very clear and their lack of fight display only increased the miseries of the New Zealand team. Now, as they embark on their tour to Sri Lanka for the first time since 2009, hopefully the fans would watch some positive displays from the Kiwis. The likely New Zealand line up will include: Rob Nicol, James Franklin, Kane Williamson, Brendon McCullum (wk), Ross Taylor (c), Jacob Oram, Kyle Mills, Tim Southee, Nathan McCullum, Adam Milne, BJ Watling.
The weather, though, is a bit of a worry in Pallekele. It was raining a couple of hours ago and conditions looked very gloomy.
