The PGA season will end on a high note this weekend at the 2012 Children’s Miracle Network Classic – the Tour’s final tournament of the year taking place at Magnolia Golf Club, Lake Buena Vista, FL.
Field of the challengers will include six major winners featuring Mike Weir, Trevor Immelman, Ben Curtis, Stewart Cink, Justin Leonard and Davis Love III and they will all tee off on Thursday at Disney. Everyone will attempt to conquer the Walt Disney World Resort’s Magnolia and Palm courses this November and collect some of the $4.7 million purse.
Last year’s tournament champion, Luke Donald, will not be able to defend his title because of a “scheduled medical procedure for one of his children.” Last year, the British star shot 17-under to beat Justin Leonard by two strokes.
The United States’ Ryder Cup captain, Davis Love III is yet to register a PGA Tour victory in 2012, but he came awfully close in his last outing at The McGladrey Classic. Love shot well under par for the first three round but lost his touch on the final day, finishing four strokes back of the winner. It also just so happens that Love’s last PGA Tour win came at this event back in 2008, when he shot 25-under to beat Tommy Gainey by one stroke. In a field that lacks any real star power, Davis Love III has an edge but is due for a win on Tour, and what better time to get one than in the season finale.
Donald’s absence along with the Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy not among the players means that a new champion will get the chance of getting crowned this weekend.
