The Day 3 may prove to be match-turning after the English batsmen failed to perform and had to face follow on after the whole team crumbled at 191 runs with Pagyan Ojha grabbed 5 wickets while R. Ashwin took 3 wickets in the 1st innings.
However, in 2nd innings English team came back strongly as the openers Alastair Cook and Nick Compton displayed creditable resistance to drive England to 111 without losing nay wicket at stumps in Ahmedabad, in reply to India’s grand total of 521 for 8.
In the morning session, England lost four wickets for the addition of 69 runs in their innings. Kevin Pietersen was apparently shaky against Ojha and was lucky to get away on a couple of occasions. Pietersen’s torturous stay at the crease was finally ended by Ojha after being bowled. The very next ball, Ojha found himself on a hat-trick when Ian Bell after Sachin Tendilkar took his catch. Cook was the next to depart for a dogged 41, edging an attempted drive off Ashwin to Virender Sehwag at first slip in the 40th over. Matt Prior helped England to pass 100 in the 49th over, and averted their previous lowest of 101 against India in Tests. Tim Bresnan became Ojha’s fouth victim when he edged to second slip for 19 off 60 balls, ending a 47-run stand with Prior.
Stuart Broad started aggressively but ended after he was declared lbw off Zaheer, though the ball was going down the leg side. Ojha then breached Prior’s defence to castle him for 48, and bagged his fourth Test five-wicket haul. England were rolled over 191 and trail by 330-run from India.
