As the final day of the 1st Test match approaches, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were heading for a draw after a high-scoring display by both teams witnessed visiting captain Mushfiqur Rahim becoming the first Bangladeshi player to score a double ton. At stumps on day four, Sri Lanka was on 116 for one in their second innings with a 48 runs lead. Earlier in the test, Sri Lanka made 570 for four declared in their first innings and Bangladesh reached 638 all out in reply.

Tuesday is the last day of the game and with a batting friendly pitch, Bangladesh are likely to force a draw. They have lost all their previous 12 Tests to Sri Lanka. The star of the day was Rahim, who had completed his 200 with the help of with 22 fours and a six before getting trapped leg before wicket off Nuwan Kulasekara in the same over.

Afterwards, Nasir Hossain completed a maiden Test century and shared a 106-run stand for the sixth wicket with his captain. Bangladesh lost five wickets within a short span, but not before posting their highest total in Test cricket.

The record partnership between him and Mohammad Ashraful laid the foundation for the massive total, the second highest on Sri Lankan soil by a visiting team. Ashraful, who resumed the day on 189, missed out a double hundred by adding just one run to his overnight total.

Later in the day, Sri Lanka lost opener Dimuth Karunaratne when he was caught at long leg after mistiming a hook shot off Shahadat Hossain. Tillakaratne Dilshan completed a half-century and was unbeaten on 63 with Kumar Sangakkara on 43.
