On the 2nd day of 2nd test match, English team took control of the game after Matt Prior produced an exceptional counter-attacking innings then Stuart Broad grabbed two wickets in consecutive balls against New Zealand at stumps on Friday. England was bowled out for 465 and reduced the hosts to 66 for 3 till the close of game with three days still left for play.

Kane Williamson remained unbeaten at 32, while Dean Brownlie was on eight after England’s pace bowlers had given the New Zealand lineup a shock in the final session. Broad seized the wicket of Hamish Rutherford (23) who edged a wide delivery to Alastair Cook at first slip. Former Kiwi captain Ross Taylor was then clean bowled leaving the hosts at 48 for 3.

Earlier, England wicketkeeper Prior scored 82 runs in an attacking way and raises visitor’s hopes for a win. In the opening session, the hosts managed to take three wickets, including that of Jonathan Trott, who remained unable to add to his score of 121.

Kevin Pietersen (73) and Broad (6) then fell in quick succession to make visitors slip to 374 for 7. Afterwards Prior played aggressively to provide his team with a boost they required. Finn, who batted as nightwatchman for almost five hours in the drawn first Test in Dunedin, shared in an 83-run stand with Prior before getting caught by Brendon McCullum at short extra cover off Wagner for 24. Prior then fell to part-time spinner Williamson, who also dismissed Monty Panesar in the same over to wrap up the innings. Anderson was unbeaten at eight, while the local left-arm spinner Bruce Martin finished with 4 for 130.
