A pastor from Toronto has been indicted with charges related to sexually assaulting four of his parishioners, including a 14-year-old girl. 36-years-old Artelino Vallada was taken in police custody on Thursday. He is charged with four counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference and two counts of invitation to sexual touching.

The lead investigator of the case, Det. Dan Luff, revealed that alleged assaults took place between November 2010 and January 2013, and that the ages of victims ranged from between 14 and 21 years. Luff added that his department was initially contacted family members of two allegedly assaulted children, whereas they were soon joined by two older women as well. Luff explained that “this is just what we know of,” and “we believe there may be more victims.” Vallada’s aunt informed that he previously worked as pastor in the Philippines and had shifted to Canada, almost six years back, when he started working as a priest at Jesus Christ the Open Door Church. The church operates out of an industrial building near Trethewey Dr. and Black Creek Dr.

Police predicts that the church has a congregation of almost 80 members. It is a registered charity, with average annual donations of about $50,000. The charity description claims that all its members convene once a week for “worship and prayer” and the church provides “religious education and instruction for all ages. It was added that “we provide pastoral and compassionate care for those in need or in crisis,” and “we seek to interact with the community to meet needs of individuals and families with whom we have contact.”
